Not trying to hijack the thread, but if the state law only says "children under 7 must be in a child restraint" then is it actually illegal to ff before 12 months? Is that a federal law? Is it implied?

I know its safer and I know its against my car seat's manual (and ds is well over two and still rfing so I get the importance), but I am curious where everyone is getting the "its illegal" part from.

Some states have specific 1 and 20 laws, and I think most specify proper use. Turning a child before 1 and 20 is not proper use.

DS is still comfortably rear facing at 3.5, 32lbs, and 40". I do weigh him regularly, now since our seat only goes to 35 lb and one good growth spurt could push him over.

A lot of states have a proper use law. So since its going against the manual its illegal. I think there are a few states that it might not be illegal in.

I held off on allergens, but I know people who were pretty lax about it. I think that really depends on your own comfort level and family history.

There's no excuse for having a 9 month old forward facing. It's not a grey area in parenting, it's black and white.

Here's a pic of my almost three year old, 36 inch, 36 pound dd. I don't know how much longer she can rearface, but we're going till 40 pounds, unless she outgrows it by height first.
