Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
Hi ladies - I am really starting to think about diapers (I know I have a long time, but I'd like to try to spread the "love" with the cost, if you know what I mean). I have every reason to believe that this baby will be little, just like DS (he was 6 lb 1 oz when born)...though I'm hoping to make it closer to my due date this time, so hopefully it will be a bit bigger.
Anywho - I am looking for some advice on what to get to start out with. I have been looking alot at the Green Mountain Diapers site and there are some options for what they term preemies (4-9 lbs) which I think it where I would start...but to be honest, I'm overwhelmed. I was also looking into gDiapers as an alternative. I didn't CD DS at all so I am a real newbie...and I sometimes don't "get" all the abbreviations and lingo, so if you can talk to me like I'm a 4-year old, that would actually probably be helpful. I would like to be somewhat modest with my budget...especially for the very beginning sizes. I really appreciate any help you all are willing and able to give. I haven't even talked to DH about this yet...I want to be armed with information and facts before I talk to him about it. I know that some of the grandparents won't be down with cloth diapering, and I'm okay with that. I just want to try to do it "most" of the time. Thanks ladies!!

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
I don't care for gDiapers, I can't seem to get them not to leak on my girls for some reason.
I am probably going with all fitteds and AIO's and have saved most of mine from my last baby so I am only going to buy a few. My last baby was huge, at 8.8 (my first was 6.11) and didn't fit NB size for long so I am not even going to buy any of that size this time. I'm looking at Rainshine and Bumstoppers. I remember I loved using GMD periwinkle edge PF's tri folded in a cover for the NB stage, too.

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
Hi! It can be very overwhelming with so many options. My personal favorite for newborns was a Prorap cover over prefolds-cheap and easy. With DS #2 I splurged and got 3 dozen newborn prefolds-the same measurements as the infant prefolds I used with DS#1 but fewer layers. Sooo much trimmer and they were still absorbant enough to use until 5 or 6 months old. Of course, my second child was over 9# so that probably helped the fit a little too
Many dads, grandparents, or even some daycares feel a little more comfortable with pocket diapers, all in ones, or AI2s (they have snap in inserts) that keep everything all together, but I'm not sure at what weight they will start fitting your baby well. Wecome to the addiction that is cloth diapering |

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
With a teeny tiny baby I say preemie Prowraps and preemie prefolds. FOr an average newborn bummis super brite and preemie prefolds. Get a few pockets or AIOs for car trips and daddy-baby time -- xs BG or xs FB seem to be a hit. I've heard good things about the nb grovia AI2.
My daughter was in cloth immediately at 7lb and we started with the nb bummis cover and preemie prefolds.

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
I didn't do cloth with DD when she was a NB, but I'd like to this time with this one. I'm looking at getting some AIOs for those very early days when we might have help in the house, and the easier it is for someone else to change the diaper, the more likely they'll use cloth. To supplement the rest of the supply, I've thought about either getting some cheap, cheap NB covers or some more SoftBums covers and using adult-sized washcloths in them folded prefold style, topped with pieces of fleece for the stay-dry effect. DD came out 7 lbs, 5 oz, but she was 2 weeks early. So there's no telling if I'll actually need NB dipes as I do have some small BGs that start out at 8 pounds.

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
Thanks everyone! It's so overwhelming to try to figure out on your own. And this will most likely be our last, so it's not like I want to spend a lot of time/money "trying out" different brands...kwim? I bought a few small fitteds on Spots Corner today CHEAP! Then in the FB group someone turned me on to these: http://www.discountdipes.com/product/view/15/68 and after reviewing them further, I decided to take the plunge and buy one package of 10. I think I'll probably do cheapie prefolds and covers to round out the NB phase. Hopefully I can get DH on board so I don't have to have a bunch of sposies on hand at all times too. Although I do think that we will try to make it easy on grandparents and let them use disposables when they care for him/her...which won't be much for a long time.

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
Those look identical to Lil' Joeys, and I did not care much for those on my last NB. The legs were too big and they weren't nearly absorbent enough. Just wanted to throw that out there. I hope they are better for you than the LJ were for me!

Re: Need some help deciding on NB Cloth...
Yikes! I hope they end up okay!!! I guess I'll find out. I'm going to waait until we find out gender before I do much more I think. If it's a boy I might not have to buy much since I have a family member with a huge stash that she's done with....she might lend/sell to me. If it's a girl I'm on my own.
