Re: Latch issues and extreme nipple pain
Nursing should not be painful. If it is, then something is wrong. A good LC can do wonders!

Saw lactation and got a shield that fits. She taught me how to express to deal with engorgement which helps make my small nipples stick out more. She then helped me with positioning. She also showed me how to do compressions to make him eat well and not just nibble forever and fall asleep and wake up quick hungry. It helped so much and resulted in a virtually painless feeding! So happy.

Re: Latch issues and extreme nipple pain
What did you find out from the LC? I had a lot of problems with nipple pain this time around too and tried all sorts of latches and saw the LC a few times. My problem turned out to be an infection of unknown origin. If you continue to have pain even with a good latch, talk to your OB or MW about APNO cream. Good luck!

Try some Lansinosh for the cracked nipples. I never needed it with DD, but DS did a number on my nipples in the hospital and my IBCLC recommended it and it helped right away. Also switched to football hold for a few days and voila, pain and scabbing was gone! (I must add that DS's latch was fine by the time I saw the LC, so was just clearing up old issues).

Re: Latch issues and extreme nipple pain
Ha your LC beat me to it! I was thinking at day 8 you should probably be pretty engourged if your LO isn't nursing great. Shield are a lifesaver as long as they are properly fitted - I used one with both kiddos. So glad to hear that you got it figured out.

Re: Latch issues and extreme nipple pain
The day after I first started using APNO was the first time I nursed DD pain-free. It was amazing!
