Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
Quote:
![]() I've had 7 births so far. 5 were at home, I'm planning homebirth #6. I've never done a waterbirth. My labours are so hard, fast, and unpredictable that I don't think there would be time to get warm water in a pool, LOL! Midwife, that's it. No vaccines, meds, testing I've never really needed any special supplies. Just a yogourt container for the placenta, and ratty old dipes for pads immediately after, towels, chux pads. I've done EC before, but with all these kids and their activities & homeschooling, frankly I can't give the babies that sort of close attention. Sounds bad, but it's the way it is. I just use prefolds because that's what I have, LOL. I guess if I hang around here long enough, I'll end up buying some more interesting dipes .

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
I am planning my second UP/UC . I'll answer the questions
![]() How many births have you had? This is my fourth birth. First two were vaginal hospital births. Last baby was a breech (surprise!) UC. How many (if any) were at home? Or, is this your first planned homebirth? I had my last baby at home. This will be my second planned UC. Planning a water birth? Hypnobirth? other comfort methods? Most likely a water birth/hypnobirth. That's what I had last time and it was a wonderful, pain free birth (no joke!) Midwife? CNM? CPM? UC? UC Doula? other support? Most likely one or two Doulas. My husband is an awesome support, so I'm not sure yet. It's nice having someone supportive there to help after the birth. Vaccine/testing? no vaccines, testing is required by law here no exemption, so we go to hospital lab in first two weeks What homebirth kit/supplies will you use? Mine is fairly simple. Gloves (for hubby to check me), a few towels, birth pool and supplies, umbilical cord clip (I might use braided string this time), scissors, birth/postpartum herbs and tinctures, and absorbant bed pads (for sitting on couch/in bed after birth), hat/gown/blanket for baby, postpartum pads, Pan for placenta (I use a little pink plastic tub they bathed my babies in at the hospital). What diaper will you use first? Will you EC? I really like Kissaluvs size 0 with the umbilical cord snapdown and a cover. They work really well for newborns.

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
How many births have you had? 4
How many (if any) were at home? Or, is this your first planned homebirth? 1st baby was in the hospital (epidural, episotomy, vacuum delivery). The other 2 were born at home as will this one Planning a water birth? Hypno4birth? other comfort methods? Planned water birth Midwife? CNM? CPM? UC? Lay midwife Doula? other support? Just dh and maybe the kids (if they are awake. With my first homebirth, dd1 was taking a nap and when she woke up here sister was there. With dd3, she came at 513 in the morning so when the girls woke up she was there. Vaccine/testing? Only the PKU test What homebirth kit/supplies will you use? My midwife puts one together and I just pay for it What diaper will you use first? Will you EC? Still working on the first diaper

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
[QUOTE=Sageac;15087007]Hi,
I wonder if I am the only one on this thread hoping to have a home-birth? I am doubtful, cause there are many mamas here, so statistically there should be a few of us. I wonder about how *you* do it... ![]() ![]() Can I join in? New to the DDC, but I've been around DS for a few yrs, I think. This is my fifth birth. First was in a BC with what I thought was a natural minded CNM...not so much, ended in transfer after birth to hospital. Second birth, my husband delivered en route as the same CNM kept putting me off--she didn't believe I was in active labor/had just gotten home from another birth. Third was a homebirth waterbirth with a CPM. Fourth, another homebirth with the same amazing midwife. We are planning our fifth with our same midwife. She's a CPM. She, her assistant and my hubby will be the only ones there. I have found I am a very private birther and much prefer to be left alone with DH until pushing. We do PKU--my MW can do it. My midwife has package that is ordered online--just the usual cord snap, chux pads, syringe, ect...(it's a bit fuzzy, lol.) My must haves are herbal baths, the peri bottle, and FOOD after labor, lol...just can't eat during, darn it! I don't know what the first dipe will be. I have a nb grovia owl that I may do, or I am making some prefitteds, but I really want that Little Boppers birthday dipe now, lol! ![]() |

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
How many births have you had? 2 c-sections. My son was born via a scheduled cesarean February 2008 due to his large size. Naive me assumed the dr had our best interest at heart and if he was highly recommending a c-section there must have been a valid reason for it. Oh if I knew then what I know now.
DS was 9 lbs 10 oz at birth but consenting to the section is something I beat myself up over on a regular basis because I know I would have birthed him naturally. I went my entire pregnancy with my daughter planning on a hospital vbac. Dr's were fine with it up until 39 weeks when a specialist told DH and I at an appointment that everyday that the baby was in utero greatly increased the chance of her being born still because I had gestational diabetes (that was well controlled.) He told us it was in my file that he highly recommended scheduling a repeat section and if we choose not to do so, we were going against his medical advice. Scare tactics worked and DD was born 3 days later via a repeat section (although I tried castor oil in the mean time to try to kick start things). I really feel like I cheated myself out of a part of motherhood and I suppose that unless you have felt that being taken away from you, it is probably hard to understand. How many (if any) were at home? Or, is this your first planned homebirth? This is our first homebirth. After my previous experiences with the local ob/gyn practice, I know that there isn't a chance to even attempt to get a vba2c so I began contacting midwives the day I found out I was pregnant (3.5 weeks). It is such a great feeling to be taking control of the pregnancy and childbirth. Planning a water birth? Hypnobirth? other comfort methods? planning on a water birth but we will see what happens and where I feel most comfortable during labor. Midwife? CNM? CPM? UC? Direct Entry Midwife Doula? other support? No doula but DH will be a great support and my sister and mom will be present to help as needed with the kids. Vaccine/testing? We will delay vaccines. Routine testing will be done at birth and open to oral vit k if needed. What homebirth kit/supplies will you use? Here is a LINK to the kit my mw recommends What diaper will you use first? Will you EC? We have a few Grovia nb and nb pockets but we will mostly use xs covers and infant prefolds until the one size pockets begin to fit.

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
How many births have you had? Zero! This is my first!
How many (if any) were at home? Or, is this your first planned homebirth? First planned homebirth...my family is definately a little apprehensive, but I educate them every time I talk with them about how safe it can be with an amazingly experienced (25+ yrs.) midwife and no unneccessary interventions...but it's difficult to educate a sister who is an OB nurse and knows nothing more than the text book information and another sister who is a Physician Assistant, but is more open-minded. Planning a water birth? Hypnobirth? other comfort methods? I'll probably labor in the bathtub, but who knows where the birth will actually happen! I found it funny that when I told my husband that I may give birth on the bed and not in the tub, he was quite appalled...he just assumed it would all happen in the bathtub! Midwife? CNM? CPM? UC? 2 CPM, 1 MW in training/doula Doula? other support? see above + hubby Vaccine/testing? probably delayed vaccine, but need to research this furthur, not sure what testing is done. What homebirth kit/supplies will you use? Need any advice, no idea! MW has a list and a friend has had a homebirth so I'm hoping she will give me some suggestions! What will you use first? Will you EC? I'm going to cloth diaper and so far have softbums and a few twinkletoes...not sure depending on the fit with the cord stump. Will probably use trifolded prefolds with either of these covers, then switch to the provided inserts once the yucky meconium poo is done. Last edited by li'l skeeter; 06-01-2012 at 01:44 PM. |

that you're going "against the grain" as it were. Good for you and please don't let their discomfort bug you. My last DS was born at home, unassisted, and my MIL thinks I'm completely insane (though she would never admit it). It's hard and i tell most people just "he was born at home" and avoid the looks of disgust I get.

Re: Homebirth mama's check in?
Wow, lots of home birth mommas! Our neighbor just had a home birth in May... I didn't realize how common they were becoming... Our small town hospital is so wonderful and so close that that will be our option this time around, but so excited for all of you!
