I have some random prefolds too, two are vintage Curity ones and I feel bad using them for pot holders. lol I first cut back on paper towels a few years ago after I got a lot of Gerber brand flats from a friend, they were leftover from a game at her baby shower and they were too thin to use as diapers so I sent them to the kitchen.

Yes. We use old towels, bar mats "borrowed" from a backpacking trip when I was young (I would love to return them ), prefolds and tea towels. They are in a drawer in the kitchen.Oh, and I have a bin in the mud room that has old towels and flannel sheets in it, that are the "dog" towels, also used for BIG messes.

Here, too. Prefolds make the best cleaning cloths.

Honestly, I beg paper towel rolls (the cardboard inner) off people because my kids want them for crafts. We haven't bought paper towel here in years.

We use some newborn prefolds and some random flats. But I also use a few paper towels here and there because I'm not sure about some things. Help me out.

Grease. This is basically the only reason I use paper towels unless my regular stuff is in the wash. If you have a grease spill, (or butter, or lard, or whatever) and clean it up with regular towels, is it okay to put that in the washer? Cause I would think it wouldn't wash so well and would maybe leave residue on your washing machine. And maybe contribute to clogging up your pipes? Is it okay to use cloth for that? Is there other things I'm not supposed to use cloth on?

I have an 8 pack of paper towels left & when they are gone they are gone. I have an end roll of newsprint that I have been known to use for draining fried foods, but it doesn't quite work for cleaning up messes... So I need to decide what to do pretty soon. I can't just stop serving fried foods- DH would mutiny.

We just bought a huge Costco pack of paper towels. I have been looking at bar towels on amazon to replace paper towels in the kitchen and entertain the thought of returning the paper towels to Costco. I have some old prefolds and t shirts I might use instead to save money. There are some great ideas on here . Ty

We have a basket of cloth napkins near the table and our "paper-towel" is simply what is commonly known as a "dish towel" that hangs on the oven handle There are also dish rags for the sink........ which is the set up I suppose everyone in America has whether they are a cloth-nut or not. We just stopped buying paper towels and use the towels we already have instead.
I agree with some PPs... I think snaps would annoy me.

I will forget my reusable shopping bagd and get paper at the store. They come in handy draining, scraping pans after greasy foods, and are fine for small messes. For spills I have dedicated rags. I dont make many large spills though. I just rinse the rag out with hot water, leave the hot water running(or rinse outside) and wash with the rest of the kitchen towels. Havent had in problems so far.

When I worked in the salon I would snatch any old towels with stains or rips and bring them home for my kitchen. They are in a basket under my sink, and when dirty they go in a wash bucket on my washer that's annoyingly located in my tiny eat in kitchen. I bought a 24 pack of automotive rags from auto zone for a few dollars, those work great also.
