Comments on names..
Has anyone had someone made a snide comment about names they have picked out? This happened a week ago and it's still bothering me. We were at my SO's mom's house along with a few of her friends. They were asking us if we had picked a name yet. My SO replied Milo Thomas, which his actual name is going to be Miles Thomas, and we're planning on calling him Milo. But one of his mom's friends said that she was sad, because she doesn't really like the name Milo and plans on calling him Miles anyway.. It really bugged me. One this was the first time I've ever meet this woman, and two it's not your kid why does your opinion matter. Ugghhh.. sorry to vent, but this seriously drives me crazy every time I think about it.

Re: Comments on names..
My DS's name is Kelvin and I had an acquaintance tell me (before he was born) that we were setting him up to a socially awkward nerd by giving him that name. I don't know why on earth people think it's their place to comment on other people's name choices.

Re: Comments on names..
This is why we never tell names before birth! We do have a name but I tell everyone that we don't

Re: Comments on names..
Yep, we've had that happen, with DD1. That's exactly why we do not share names anymore. We announce after the baby is born. In our situation it was my mother that was being difficult, she didn't like the two options we had for DD and advised she didn't like one of them and would only be calling her by the other name, regardless of what we chose

Re: Comments on names..
Oh goodness! DS is Wyatt. We live in Arizona and I'd gotten, "Like Wyatt Earp?" more times than I care to recall. I simply say, "No like Wyatt _Last name_". And that's usually met with, "He's going to grow up to be a cowboy." Cause you know, your name typically defines your profession? And a very perplexed look by the offending party when I say, "And...? What's wrong with being a cowboy?"
DDs name has only been met with positive comments, so far. I don't know if that's simply because everyone has gotten the drift I really don't care what their opinions are on any aspect of my parenting, or because they really like her name. I don't care either way. I had to grow a very thick skin with parenting DS because my family constantly decided that as a FTM I didn't know what I was doing and always needed their advice especially because I chose a very different parenting method than they did.

Re: Comments on names..
my SIL said something to the affect that "oh that's like koala" (keola). Now i keep in mind that her DD has a Russian name that no one can pronounce
. my mom won't even ask Keola's whole name, but when i told her the meaning of his name, then she became contrite, lol. She never likes my kids' names, but i don't really care.

Re: Comments on names..
We don't tell the name before baby comes, mostly because we don't know it
we have a list and our family is normally pretty good at not making comments but with DD I told my mom we liked the name Persia and she went off on how could we do that to our poor child, it was a terrible name etc etc. We ignored her though and kept it on our list. Its not everyone else's opinions that matter, its whether you like the name or not and it suits your baby. If his name is Milo then just correct her everytime and teach him not to respond to her if she doesn't use the right name

Re: Comments on names..
Yes, almost everyone doesn't like the name we've chosen. We were flip flopping between Indie and Archer. Everyone loves Archer but we're about 90% sure now that we are going with Indie (Indi, Indy? We haven't settled on the spelling). I'm sick of hearing that it's a girls name. People are acting like we're naming him Rose or something, haha! We are brushing it off though. We both love the name, so that's all that matters.
