Generally I prefer trim. But it's not a must by any means.

i usually make the waist band a trim color but i LOVE no trim for the legs. Something about trim in the legs reminds me of jammies...

Sometimes I use trim, sometimes I don't. It depends on the colorway.

i prefer trim, but i knit without it often to save money. i dont mind how it looks without, but it usually look nucer with.

I always think I really prefer having trim, but then I do a pair without it and like it too, LOL.

And for footies I do prefer no trim, since I only use it in the waistband anyway:
