Airing out a new crib mattress
I bought a Kolcraft, we didn't have the funds for an organic mattress like I would prefer, so how long should I let it air out before using it?
It's currently sitting in DD's room (she hasn't moved in there yet, she's still in with us) without a sheet or anything on it. The window in the room is wide open. I thought about putting it outside but the forecast this week is iffy and there's a chance of showers everyday.

Re: Airing out a new crib mattress
Technically a few days but we found it took a week or two. If it isn't better in a week or even a few days, then return it if you can and get another one. Ours smelled at least a week so we had to keep squirt in the PNP.

Re: Airing out a new crib mattress
I'm glad I asked, I was thinking a couple/few days! She isn't quite readyto sleep in it yet so a week isn't bad. She wants to get in and jump and play but NO sleeping.

Re: Airing out a new crib mattress
You can also use frebreeze or something but I don't like the idea of putting chemicals and I don't think it helps. We bought a "natural" twin mattress for my son and it stunk for two weeks and was still terrible. They told me to do frebreeze (not sure if I am spelling it right) and I thought it made it smell worse. I ended up returning it. I'd give it a good week and if you can, two weeks. She can get in and play for a little bit but if it smells really bad I wouldn't do it for too long. Apparently its normal as they package them directly after making them and they don't get time to air out before packaging.

Re: Airing out a new crib mattress
so you're telling them you're trying to air out a mattress and they tell you to spray chemicals on it?
what the heck? I'd do at least a week

Re: Airing out a new crib mattress
Yup, that's what Bob's Furniture said to do with their "natural" mattress. That is exactly what I said and we returned it despite them initially telling us we couldn't.
