Black bean brownies
Has anyone made these? I've made them a few times and while they are edible they don't seem quite right. Like they seem like they should taste better, texture-wise. The texture obviously isn't quite the same as regular brownies, but I still think something's not quite right and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... there was one time I made them that the texture was great. Can't remember what I did then. Anyway...

Re: Black bean brownies
Yeah. I had the same results. Not bad, but not really good. Just kind of weird. I thought next time I might add just a touch of butter to see if it helped. But as made the first time- not likely to make them again.

Re: Black bean brownies
Thanks for the link! I've made em before from allrecipes.com, and it was ok. I did follow some suggestions from the reviews- I think I added baking powder.?. But still not your 'normal' brownie. I usually topped with frosting or mashmallows and choc chips, not healthy I know....but hey!

Re: Black bean brownies
Don't knock it if you haven't tried it... they're actually quite delish and I bet someone could serve it to you and you'd like it if you didn't know what was in it. We did that to my dad... made chickpea brownies and he took seconds (not knowing what it was)... then once we told him, he wouldn't eat anymore. If they were regular brownies, he would have had more the next day, but he wouldn't touch these anymore *after* he knew what they were.

Re: Black bean brownies
While the recipe I tried wasn't quite right, it wasn't bad. The one above looks like it might be really good. Seriously you can not taste beans. The first recipe I tried tasted more like a dry chocolate cake then brownies, but even dh who hates beans ate them and didn't complain. And he was looking for a reason to complain. It took me a year to try them because I just couldn't see how you could make them with beans and it not taste like a bean- but they don't.

Re: Black bean brownies
When I made them they totally tasted like beans and I ended up tossing the whole batch. I have a friend who makes them regularly and hers are always delicious. I think it just really depends on the recipe with these.
My absolute favorite "healthy" brownies are zuchinni brownies. Yum! |

Re: Black bean brownies
I actually kinda like them better than regular brownies. They aren't the same as regular brownies, but they don't taste bad and you can't even tell there are black beans in them because you use cocoa and some type of sweetener (sugar, agave, etc.) I'm just having trouble figuring out the texture. However, I tried them again and noticed letting them cool and then putting them in the fridge seems to help a lot. My little ones especially really like them! It's just using black beans in place of flour which makes it a much healthier treat! ![]() eta: It does depend on the recipe though. I tried using recipes that used bananas instead of eggs a couple of times and don't like those ones. My little ones did love them with bananas though. This is the recipe I usually use: http://www.food.com/recipe/black-bea...en-free-255239 and I like it a lot. I usu. use coconut oil but next time may try with butter b/c my husband didn't like the flavour of the coconut ones and I'm curious how they'd turn out with butter.
