LO does this (she's 2 wks), and sometimes she keeps it up for an 1-1.5 hours. Bicycles, burping, and changing dipes all help sometimes, but nothing seems to consistently help. When it gets really bad, and has been going on for hours, I have DH give her a bottle of BM. I just don't know what else to do for her. She fussed like this for 5 solid hours one night.

My five week old does this too. Sometimes I can figure out why, and sometimes not. It's frustrating.

Re: What does this behavior mean?
My LO is eight weeks and she exhibited this same behavior at that time. It was mostly gas and tummy discomfort. She would get constipated and only have one poo diaper a day (I called the pediatrician very quickly after that day). He put her on a stool softener and it has helped immensely. I have a happy baby again. For her, squirming around now means a soiled diaper or that she needs to burp. And don't worry about the neighbors, you're a new mom!

When LO got fussy today at the nipple, I took her outside and sat in the swing with her for awhile. That seemed to calm her. She eventually let me rock her to sleep.
She burped and pooted quite a few times too.I think we may be expecting her to nurse everytime for self soothing, whereas we need to explore other options. |

Re: What does this behavior mean?
sounds like your little one needs to burp. your little also might not like the feeling of being wet at all and so they'll keep getting figity till you change them

Re: What does this behavior mean?
My baby is 6 weeks and we are also ECing... sometimes she acts in a similar way when her diaper is wet or when she has to pee, so I'd give it a shot! I love when holding her over the potty solves our nursing problems!
But sometimes she doesn't have to go to use the potty and in those situations I'm not sure what to do... I tend to switch breasts because maybe she's frustrated that there's not as much milk after 10-15 minutes? I worry that she's not getting the hind milk but at least she's eating! It's just a guess; I've got a lot of learning to do. |

Re: What does this behavior mean?
I could have written this and I'm so glad I found this thread! My LO does the exact.same.thing and like another poster said, I can never anticipate what is going to fix it. My other kids never did this and I was getting worried about our BFing relationship. He's growing well so I keep talking myself out of supplementing but it sure is frustrating. He has been a gassy baby since day 1 though, so I bet that contributes.
