Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
Ok so DS will get reflux if I have milk products. (and we think soy too)
He also gets a face rash and eczema in his diaper area - basically a rough red patch. these completely go away if I avoid milk products (which is hard!!) My question is this, if we treat the reflux with Prevacid, will the other issues still appear if he has milk products? I am scared to try again. when I have milk he is NOT happy for the rest of the day/night, whatever. We have the Prevacid. He seemed very gassy the night I tried it. Also, is it really safe for newborns? If it's not going to cure the milk sensitivity I don't really want him on it. ![]() Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
First was he not gaining weight? Do u know if milk or milk protein? No its not cure for sensitivity. I haven't had issues but hubby cousin yes & friend. Cousin not know 4 sure but people there not know & told her ok for sherbert but it has milk too. Read labels closely. Soy & milk in lots. I met gal whose kids are allergic to lots & I seriously don't know how she does it.

Re: Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
It is reasonably safe for newborns. I completely was against medication but it was our lifesaver. We had a happy baby but overnight he went to very happy baby when we had the right combination of things for him. There are several medication available so its trial and error of which will work and you have to watch it as it goes by weight so a slight weight gain could throw the meds off. For the milk, it really depends on the child. Reflux and a milk sensitivity/allergy are two different things. You can try mylicon for the gas.

Re: Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
I was told no weight gain at all with spit up is when to start with sensitivity issues & to be concened but cousin ped said 2 oz wasnt enough & said to stat away from milk & gave her meds. But then wasn't staying away from all things milk like sorbet(sherbert?) Ingrediences said milk.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone but meds are to help symptoms while figuring out what sensitivity ur kid has but u still need to stay away from products. Milk & milk protein are different so be sure which? |

Yes, the other issues will still appear. Prevacid will only treat one of the symptoms, not the actual problem.

Re: Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
Prevacid has "milk" in it. A friend of our son has EE and had a major issue because of it
It is listed as lactose monohydrate. It is a milk derivative. The skin issue is not anything to do with reflux.

Re: Newborn, Reflux & Milk Questions..
thanks! that helps! oh how i miss my dairy! The reason i was skeptical is because i think at least 2 of my kiddos had this for sure but have outgrown it. i know i tried an elimination diet with my last and couldn 't pinpoint dairy for sure but i might have just not been tracking every ingredient properly.
i think i was doing gluten free for myself at least, and gave in with the dairy because it was too hard to tell, etc. i think it only lasted 3 months.. not sure!
