Re: Selling our home- am I being a baby???
I'm glad your place has sold and they accepted your counter. That is a huge relief. It will be ok. It will be nice to live in a low cost of living area with a decent income. When you are looking for rentals if you search the address on trulia there is an area where you can check for schools and crime. Good luck finding a place. It is pretty stressful.

Re: Selling our home- am I being a baby???
Will the company pay for you guys to stay in an extended stay place for any length of time? I know that's what DH's company does. At least that way you can check out a good place to rent......

Re: Selling our home- am I being a baby???
Honestly it should not be hard to find a home in Omaha. Dh and I drove around for one afternoon with his mother, checking out all the "we have the floor plans, you pick your plan and visit the home design center" type builders, which were EVERYWHERE, and could have made an offer that day had dh actually had orders. Now, if you go that route like we did here in Vegas, it takes about 2 months to actually build the house, but I'd probably look for a short term lease in Omaha if you really want to buy. Of course, if you want to spend a year really getting a feel for the area, that's fine too! We were pretty comfortable, having MIL live there for so long.

Glad to hear that! Can you just stay in a hotel for a week or two when you first arrive and then find a rental? I'd rather do that so I could get the "feel" of the neighborhood I was going to be renting or buying a house
ETA: The Omaha metro area has lots of housing, so you won't miss out on a great rental by waiting till you arrive

We are kind of in this situation. We have a house we want to sell. We are not under water but what we will get is less than what we put in. It's super frustrating since if we had sold it a few years ago we could easily have gotten double. But at this point the thing is just costing us money, and we are ready to walk away. We countered, they countered our counter and we are going to take it. I am praying it goes through bc I just do NOT want to be on the hook for this place any longer!!

Congrats on the sale.
Good job you are on here with all the mamas who know the area you are moving too, at least you can ask here and they'll let you know if the area is a good one. |

Re: Selling our home- am I being a baby???
Congrads at selling it so soon. My sister and her Dh it took them 4 years to sell their home and than they had 2 offers on it in a week. They weren't upside down its just the set-up of their starter home caused people not to want it.

Re: Selling our home- am I being a baby???
Ditto this. Also as someone who's dh traveled a lot for business I hated being away from him, it was not good for the kids or I at all. I'd just be thankful you are not upside down and take the offer.

Glad they accepted! Do companies really pay for people to go househunting if they are being relocated? Ive never heard of that.
