Re: Low iron = utter exhaustion??

I read this post because I am having the same problem. I'm 26 weeks and zonked out. Where do you get Floradix? Is it over the counter? Will it cause constipation? Thanks!

I have an appt next Tuesday and I'm going to ask for a blood test. But, before that, is there anything I can or should do? Should I go ahead and start some OTC iron? What can I eat that has iron in it? I think steak does. Does ground beef? Any veggies?? I'm thinking spinach???

Any BTDT advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I had to take an OTC iron with both my pregnancies. I still have to take iron. I have a hard time swllowing pills so I started taking flinston with irons instead of prenatles with DD2, as soon as they gave me the chewable prenatle vitamins my iron dropped. So I went back to two flinstones with iron a day and was fine.

This is what my WIC consoltant said was ok to do.

I bought mine at Whole Foods. It was a little expensive, but considering without it I could barely make it through the day, it was well worth the cost. I had no constipation with the Floradix and took it for about 4 months, every day. I've never seen anyone complain about constipation while taking it either.

Re: Low iron = utter exhaustion??

Thanks everyone! I'll look into the the Floradix and have my iron tested at my next appt too. Till then, I'm going to up my iron intake by adding in more red meat (which I tend to crave anyway) and other iron rich foods....looking forward to my spinach and strawberry salad for lunch tomorrow.

I've been told to take Flinstones by OB's when I couldn't get the prenatals down. I haven't done it this time though. But, I admit, I haven't been taking my prenatals like I should either. I did take one today though. I usually do take one of my kids gummy multi's. But, I looked today and they don't have iron in them. I thought they were good, but I was looking at the list and I feel like they be missing some things. I may go back to giving them Flinstones even though I can get these in much better quantity at Costco. In which case, I'll get the ones with extra iron and take them with the kids.

Re: Low iron = utter exhaustion??

my iron gets really low while pg. last time around i tried the liquid floradix and had a rough time choking it down (tasted like liquid pennies). this time i searched online and found that they now make floradix in tablet form. i did have to order it online, as i couldn't find it in store, but it has helped so much. i feel like a human again , and i was able to get my iron up enough to be eligible for a homebirth. their cut-off was an iron level of 10 and when i was first tested i only came back at 9.5.
