Increasing supply on one side?
Is it possible?
DD favors the right breast because the nipple on the left breast is flat (I think...) She's been latching better now at 5wks, but my supply is almost always drastically lower on the left. It may sound silly, but I'm afraid I'm going to dry up and be left seriously lopsided. Not to mention, nursing on one side at every feeding sounds like it could get rough... I've been taking fenugreek, but now I'm constantly over-full on the right. Any ideas?

Re: Increasing supply on one side?
Always start on the less full side and if she wants a snack let her snack on the one that produces less. One side always produces less but hopefully it will make you more balanced
good luck.

Thanks. I thought something was wrong with me! I've been switching sides but I'll keep starting her on the left and see if that helps.

Re: Increasing supply on one side?
Every mom has what I call a high side and a low side. Some babies prefer the high side, others, the low side. Switching sides with each feed will help maintain supply on each side. Really, its just the way our bodies are made. If you feel that one side is extremely low, feel free to start on that side more frequently, but remember that you are then asking for less milk from the high side and it may leave you equally unbalanced and without the right amount of total milk..

Re: Increasing supply on one side?
I always start my son on the lower side, then switch to the fuller, then switch back to the lower. It hasn't really completely balanced them out, but I've also noticed that when both get overfull feeling (if it's been a while since he last ate) the left is still noticeably smaller, so I have to agree with the it's just the way our bodies are made comment.
