Re: The economics of hybrid diapers is broken

Well, the way I look at it is different. The only hybrids I use are Flips and the Stay Dry inserts. They seem pretty cheap to me. I purchased covers and inserts that were Seconds quality (brand new, but cheaper than first quality). I will use them until DS3 child potty-trains and will also use them for my next child. I take good care of them (and also have a large stash which helps with wear) and will re-sell them when I have no more children in diapers. So I will get at least part of my initial investment back. You can't say that about disposable diapers

The logical way would be to take the price of the box and divide by the number of inserts IN the box.

Oh, I see! I thought he was referring to the cloth inserts. He must mean the disposable inserts? That wasn't very clear

Yes, he was saying that he thought he found a happy medium between disposables and cloth by using covers with disposable inserts in them. At least that is how I read it.

Re: The economics of hybrid diapers is broken

I'll bite even though this is a silly argument. For one you are comparing the cost of biodegradable diaper inserts to regular takes-hundreds-of-years-to-decompose disposables. The only biodegradable diaper that I know of are Abena Bambo and they come out to about $.36 each so around the same as the other biodegradable options.

I use Flip covers but stuffed with flats. I thought most people only used the disposable inserts for things like traveling or daycare. For some people money is not a factor at all so they don't care about the price of the biodegradable inserts. For those who care about the environment, the chemicals in disposables and their wallets washing and reusing cloth is not considered a waste of time.

trollish? love it- never heard that one before

good point about the inserts- stupid me- never thought about the biodegradable component- now you are comparing apples with apples and they dont seem so expensive now.

Re: The economics of hybrid diapers is broken

Ok, I haven't read all of the other responses, but I feel the need to ask:

Are you...
1) Really frustrated at cloth diapering parents who use hybrid diapers, and meant to sound a little...umm...not so charitable?
or
2) Really frustrated at the cost of hybrid diapers, and need to vent, but didn't really intend to be...less than charitable?

Help us out, here. Most of us understand the need to vent (we SOOOO do!), but your tone sounds pretty upset at the moms, rather than the manufacturers...

Please note, I'm not saying you're wrong about the cost of hybrids! Just looking for some clarification...
