don't use a heating pad, get a warm washcloth/hand towel and use that. My dr advised against heating pads, not sure if their safe since most dr's have different opinions. At your appt, ask your dr for a maternity support belt.

My docs office advises against electric heating pads but is ok with the rice pack kind that you heat in the microwave.

Huh, my OB told me it was fine to use a heating pad on low, which I did all through both pregnancies. Never for more than an hour or so, though.

The reason, and I am totally assuming, that someone would say a rice (or whatever) pack is fine but electric pad is not is because of EMG's. Look it up on google. I am a massage therapist and when I do prenatal massage I never leave the heating pad on - I will have it on before they come to get the table warm. A microwave or warmer warmed rice/bean/corn whatever pack is fine as long as its not super hot and you never put it on your belly. My two cents

Re: heating pad during pregnancy?

Mine said no heating pad, and absolutely none of the Tylenol heat pain patches.
He said to make a washcloth wet with hot water, put it in a ziplock so it stays warm, wrap it in a towel, and use that. This actually worked better than I thought it would.
