Do your kids play with Schleich animals?

LOVE them. My grandparents have some at their house that my kids play with, and she bought some for the kids, also.

Our kids love them! We've been buying them for about 6 years and they all still look excellent. They hold up very well.

My kids (7yo, 5yo and 2yo) love them. My DD is starting to get into the fantasy figures but my boys are constantly playing with the animals.

ETA: My kids do have a few other cheap animals but nine times our of ten they grab for the Schleich ones. The only times they really play with the others is if they want a baby (b/c the cheap ones are smaller).

They are pretty open ended, IMO. You can do a lot with an animal. I will say that I'm too cheap to buy them, but we've been gifted a couple and the kids love them. Also I got a bag of them at a yardsale this morning for 50 cents!!! I'm so excited!!!!!

Would you recommend getting a family of one particular species, or a couple different ones?

My son is really into elephants right now, and has a 5th birthday coming. Like I said, he saw these in the store and went nutso over them, but I do want his gift to be a surprise. I am not sure what all to get him and can't afford to screw it up

I can't tell you how many we have. They are so sturdy and well made. Anytime by kids get animals made by other companies they break. If they're allowed to choose more than one one of my boys will pick out a family and the others will go with mixed.

You could get a family, but I think it would be more fun to get him more than one type. You could do a regular elephant, a mammoth, and one of the fantasy elephants, or you could get a little "safari" with other African/Indian wildlife.

Yes they do, they love them! They sell them at Tractor Supply which my husband finds a reason to go to at least once a week so we get them some from there in their Christmas stockings every year. We actually have some that were mine when I was younger that my mom gave us and they are still in fantastic shape!
