saying goodbye to the family bed

after 9 years of having at least one child in our bed, we finally have the bed to ourselves. It is a bittersweet thought to me. My dh and I have have only been together almost 11 years, and there has been someone in the bed with us almost every night at least or at one point in the night for 9 years(and even before that we had a dog that liked to jump in the middle).
My 3 year old has decided to start sleeping in his brother's room, and while I am ecstatic in a way, I know I will miss it too.
I will say in the last few weeks since he made the move, my dh and I have had a more special connection in the bed room(I do not mean in the obvious way) and out. I never realized what a difference it would make in our relationship to have the kids not sleeping in our room. I would not change the way we (or more so I ) chose to sleeping arrangements the last several years, but I am looking forward to having my husband and our room to ourselves.
I almost feel guilty in a way that I am glad. Is that normal? How long does that feeling stay?

Guess no one else had mixed feelings about giving up the family bed?

Re: saying goodbye to the family bed

I have twinges about it sometimes and I'm sure that our kiddos will join us every now and then but I do enjoy having the bed to just us. I sleep better, even though I still listen out for the kids all night.

For some reason, DD sleeps better on her own. Not that I'm complaining.

Re: saying goodbye to the family bed

We are big fans of no kids in the bed. That being said if someone is sick, they are in our bed. Also the 2 year old usually joins us around 6:30am when the sun comes up. But, he will let me sleep until 7:30 or 8 so I am a fan of this arrangement
