So many socks!!!

Okay, so this sounds ridiculous; but our house is overrun with socks. It seems like every time they get old and ratty, we buy a new package and the old ones don't every get thrown away; they just get mixed into an even bigger rotation. I've had it with them and have collected every sock in the house, and I'm planning to go through them all and toss most.

What is a good number of sock pairs per person in a household? We're seriously used to a good 50-60 pp and it's getting insane!

6-12 pair per person (example, I have 6 white and 6 black so depending on outfit and shoes I am good) should be more than enough You might be able to cut back to 3-6 pair each if you find you still have too many.

My son has roughly 20 pairs. 3 pairs are dress socks the rest are white and just 2 styles.

I have about 20 ish Mostly white but some black, gray, and beige. I also have a few multi colored ankle sock that were cut off and sewn from knee socks. DD uses the leg part as leg warmers. (ie homemade Babylegs)

DH has 9 pairs of wool socks (all the same) , 10 or so white cotton, 6 or so dress socks, and a few random other pairs.

DD has like 60 pairs but most don't fit. She is between sizes with skinny long feet. I need to pack away her newborn & other too small infant socks. (She is 11 months but fits 2T or larger in clothes. A lot of her socks are Trumpettes so I'm saving them for the next child.)

I usually go through my DS's socks at the start of the school year. I sort through DH's at Christmas time (when I buy him new).

We keep 6 pairs white (one style), 1 pair black dress socks for DH and I. 12 pairs white (one style) for my son and 1 pair black dress socks.
I also have various cute socks that stay rolled up in the back of my drawer until I am getting dressed up for something.

We do laundry twice a week so the amount works for us plus extras. I buy a new six pack for each DH and I every six months or so and donate the old ones.
