Knitting, how many oz or yds...
Do I need to make longies on average? I see most is sold in 3.5-4oz skeins and I just didn't know if one skein would be enough. Haven't started knitting yet, and my first attempt is going to be cheap yarn turning into a dishcloth, but I am trying to figure out how much wool I'll need when I am finally ready to tackle longies. I realize it will vary by required size, but looking for a general guideline and didn't see it in the sticky above
(DD is 16 weeks and fitting longies measuring W:16" H:18" R:15" I:17")

You'll probably want around 4oz for the colorway and 2 oz for trim.

For that size, 1 skein well be fine, add a 1-2 oz skein for trim if you want the contrasting waistband and hems. Good luck!

Re: Knitting, how many oz or yds...
I make large shorties from a 3.5 oz skein (depending on brand). I would guess that those measurements are a small to small/medium. To be sure, I would either purchase 2 skeins in the colorway you want, or 1 skein colorway and 1-2 oz trim.

Re: Knitting, how many oz or yds...
Generally smalls take 4oz, mediums 6oz, larges 8oz, and xl 10 oz. To make shorts take 1-2 oz off. Soakers can almost always be made from 4oz or less, skirties take 2 to 3oz more depending on how full it is. Ruffle hems generally take .5oz
Hope that helps! This is for crochet which uses about 20% more yarn than knit.
