Anybody wanna help me???

I went and put oldest dd in her carseat to see how she fits and she has already outgrown it. Actually, they are both the same size, so she's outgrown both carseats.
What do I go to next? Are some carseats taller than others or does she move on to something else?

Sorry, double checked and my 3 year old has not outgrown the Safety 1st. It has a higher set of slots whereas the Graco does not. Her head is right at the top of the seat, but her ears have a little bit of room before they are at the top.
So could we just move her to this one(she was riding in the graco)? I will check about the Graco our 17 month old. Maybe she fits better in it.

Yes in the mean time she can ride in it. Do you have a budget for a new seat?

Absolutely some car seats are taller than others and the ones you have are quite short as car seats go. That's generally the difference between the inexpensive car seats and the pricier ones is that the cheap ones are outgrown quicker - not a big deal if your kids trend really short, but yours is not. The Maestro, the Graco Nautilus and Argos, the 2 safekids seats (evenflo?) and the Britax frontier have all much higher shells and strap heights than the convertibles you mention and eventually transition into highback boosters, although the maestro's booster part doesn't last much longer than the harness.

I would not move the child up to a belt positioning booster yet. Studies show that a child is as safe in a booster as a harness IF AND ONLY IF the child is mature enough to sit still for the ride. I've never met a 3 year old who could manage that - they may exist, but they're not typical. Most kids aren't ready until more like 5 or 6.

As for your question up thread, most of us learn this simply by reading a lot on the subject. I knew very little about carseats when I became a mom, but from lurking here I've learned a lot. There are a fair number of technicians on here, which helps us laymen learn too. I have a lot of vehicle based anxiety and knowing a lot about how to keep my kids as safe as I reasonably can helps my anxiety a great deal.

Awesome job for taking the initiative to learn more! Be careful....if you get too into it it becomes an addiction and carseats aren't cheap lol.

I was just thinking the same thing! This is kinda like crossing over into wool!!! My poor dh!
