Books about Home Schooling (experiences/success stories) for a complete Newbie?

Hi! I'm only JUST beginning to consider the possibility of homeschooling ds (who is 10.5 months old). Would love to read books about families who have done it, especially in a less structured way. We wouldn't be coming at it from a religious perspective, so I'm more interested in the stories of families who've done it for other reasons.

Suggestions? Thank you!

Linda

Anything by John Holt (especially if you want less structured),
We unschool and I love www.sandradodd.com/unschooling for reference

Also, the book The Way They Learn by Cynthia Tobias. There is usually a used copy at Amazon for $1.50 or so. Very helpful info!

HTH!

I just Googled -- a lot.... I also searched through www.amazon.com & made a list of books to check out of the library: finally decided to buy a few of them (John Holt & Linda Dobson in particular). ITA that it's definitely a good idea to gain an understanding of both your own + your child's learning style, etc. The best advice that I got was to just reach out into the community! Hang flyers seeking out other families in or interested in homeschool cooperatives if you don't know of any already & just keep asking questions! I like the book called "So Your Thinking About Homeschooling" by Lisa Wichell (I don't know how to spell her last name) But it goes through about 10 different families and how they homeschool and why they chose the method they did.

I highly recommend reading "The Well Trained Mind" by Jessie Wise. It took me from thinking about homeschooling to making a definite decision and it has a great layout for how to actually do it from start to finish, complete with book lists and curriculum recommendations. I think it's excellent!
