What size crockpot....

would you suggest for a family of 3?

I have a giant one--6 qt maybe?--and it's just too big for our small family. It's great for making bone broth, but most other dishes we end up with WAY too much. Do you think a 3 or 3 1/2 qt would be large enough?

This. If we don't eat them right away I freeze leftover. If u don't want that much leftover I would probably go with a 4 qt. That seems to be good mid size. I may be totally off though, its been awhile since I've cooked for only 3.

We have a family of 4; DH, me 6 y/o dd and 1 y/o ds so I only cook for "3". We have a big 6qt and I don't like it we never eat everything and no matter how I try no one in my family eats leftovers, if its "left over night" they all usually eat pb sandwiches instead :/ I've been keeping my eye out for a smaller one for us at thrifty stores & garage sales cause we just don't eat the amount you can make in a 6 qt

I do like leftovers, just not in the quantity I get from the 6 quart. For example, I made lasagna and after 3 meals of it we still have about half left. I'd like to be able to make enough for 2 meals.

Hmm, aside from getting a smaller crock pot, I'd suggest that when you have a whole lot of leftovers, try freezing anything beyond one meal's worth of leftovers. My family so far has no problems with leftovers (DH just doesn't like consecutive leftovers -- e.g., he prefers to eat Monday's leftovers on Wednesday, not Tuesday), but I still wouldn't want to feed them the same meal more than twice in one week.

I do - hamilton beach is the brand. I love it. The 2qt is great when just doing meat in sauce or a side dish for a pot luck. The 4qt is the one I use most often for stews, chili etc for our family of 3 (well 4, but my youngest is 2mos), and the 6qt I use for nights we have company or when I want a lot of leftovers to pressure can.

I have 4,5 and 2 quart crockpots. I use the 4 and 5 all the time. Just 3 of us. I have a great cookbook with meals using two crockpots. Using one to make an entree and another to make a side. I'm going through a kitchen remodel and I will be out my kitchen 2-3 weeks. I don't plan on eating out at all. Just using the crockpots and a rice cooker.
