Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
I had just turned 10. They're not hard to use, especially if the kid is responsible. They're cheaper, and glasses are an enormous hassle anyway, so I encourage you to have the eye doctor give him a trial pair and see how he does

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
I know i was in middle school but I cant remember exactly how old. Just make sure if he wears contacts he always has a back up pair or glasses.

My dd got them last year, a couple of months before she turned 13. She mostly wears them for judo and a couple odd days at school.
We got the daily disposable ones which are more expensive, but not the upkeep

Thanks for all the replies. He said he doesn't want to use contacts all the time but I am pretty sure when he tries them he will like them. We will go ahead and let him but will get back up glasses for sure!

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
My oldest just got them a few months ago. But he was squimish about putting his finger in his eyes. I had them at about 12, but I was really good about making sure that I took them out daily, cleaning them, etc. Not so careful with mine now. I've been known to fall asleep with them in or leave them in for a few days.

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
I would get him the night and day ones that you can just leave in for a month at a time. That's what I use and I LOVE THEM! I'm really bad about it and even leave them in for longer than you're supposed to and it's still fine.

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
I was 13. I did great until I was about 16 and then I decided it was alot of work (not really I was just lazy with them, not sure why, I was really responible) and over the next 2 years I had so many eye infections, the eye dr said it would ruin my vision and now I have to wear glassess.

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
The family I nanny for has a boy who got glasses at 4, and by 5 he would only wear sport specs, and now at 6 he's full-time in contacts. He really really wanted to and it seems to be working for them.

Re: When did your ds start wearing contacts?
I was 16 with contacts and I honestly wouldn't go any younger. I think there is to much responsibility as far as cleaning, not tearing, knowing if there is a tear..feeling it and realizing it, etc. Talk to the Dr though. Some people glasses are better and some contacts. For my eye issue contacts are actually better then glasses.
