Laundry care for dummies?
I've always just tossed everything in the wash on cold and called it good. But now that I have a baby and she's venturing into all sorts of nastiness I'd like to learn a little more about laundry care. Any pieces of advice for beginners?
We have a newer HE top loader. Her clothes are coming out with stains from food and mud, I think our other laundry is fine. What should a basic laundry routine look like? |

For me....keep in mind I was raised with a very meticulous mother lol
Sort into piles: Darks, Whites, Jeans, Towels, Bedding, Delicates...if you want to wash baby's clothes separate, do so, but I also have a Top Loading HE and that would be SUCH a waste of a wash IMO. I do Tide Liquid HE to the 3 for a full load, a scoop of OxyClean and I pour vinegar into the softener section (my boys are heavy wetters and at night their pj pants end up smelling like pee...vinegar is the only way I have gotten it out). I have started adding the soak option to every load. It adds TIME to the cycle, but it's just sitting there, so it's not any more water or electricity...it has helped tremendously with my stain issues

I have front but I pretreat anything that has need 4 it.I try to get big stuff off too b4 washing poo, food, or anything. Sometimes do extra cycle if really dirty. I have soil level I can change to as well. I use it like once in a while. Do u try oxiclean? Whip it good for some. I use shout & color safe bleach lots. I have hot cold I use some too.

Re: Laundry care for dummies?
Thank you for the suggestions. I do have oxiclean & vinegar, maybe I should add that.
So what does the logistics of that look like... you look through each item before it goes int he wash, use a pre-treatment, let it soak, come back then add it to the wash then start it? I just got some brand new babylegs and on her first time wearing them she crawled in the dirt and they came out of the wash with a little brown all over them... would you pre-treat the whole thing? Our laundry room is really small and we don't have a lot of laundry. We have maybe a load of household things every 2 or 3 weeks, so sorting seems impractical. DH does his own laundry, I do mine and that's not a problem. |
