Re: Talk to me about play food
I'd avoid the Melissa & Doug wooden food like the plague. Their wooden toys fall apart quickly. The paint on the wooden food chips easily (I've lost count of how many ended up in the trash because the paint chipped off or they broke) & my son got splinters from their blocks. I do like their felt food (we've had it for 7 months now, no problems) but not the wooden stuff. DH talked me into buying ds the M&D pirate treasure chest for his 2nd birthday this past December. It lasted 3 months before the wooden chest broke into pieces, sharp pieces that could have easily hurt him & ds didn't do anything crazy with it. We've had too many M&D things become a safety issue. I'd pass on them.
I'd stick with Haba's wooden food if money isn't an issue or the IKEA food is nice if there is a budget. We have Haba food here that is over 10 years old & it looks brand new. Their shopping nets are awesome to pretend to shop. Amazon has the best prices on their stuff that I have seen. Green Toys makes very nice play food as does Plan toys.

We have all the Ikea food and Ikea toy metal dishes. Very fun, realistic, and affordable. I've also gotten some real but very tiny pots, pans, plates, jugs, etc from thrift stores for just a few dollars.

Re: Talk to me about play food
DD was about 2.5 when she really was into play food and her kitchen. She's almost 4 now and we just got rid of her little kitchen because she piled stuff on it more than she played with it. but...when she did like it a lot we had plastic food. She liked fruits and dinner things like pizza slices, spaghetti, veggie (like a blob of peas) I think because those are her fave thign to eat. She had tons of deli type food (it was a deli shoppe kit) and she never touched those. Oh she liked donuts too.
