Yep. I stuck with the caf!! Maybe 4 cups (two mugs) a morning. I did this all last pregnancy too. I saw a number somewhere about the safe limits of caffeine... And it was way high... Like I could drink three sodas a day or something.. So I tend not go worry... But I am also one to not listen to the other "dont eat while pregnant rules"

Re: Decaf or reg?
i might if my last two hadn't been losses but it makes you a little paranoid. Most of my friends drink a cup or two a day all through out pregnancy and they all have beautiful babies! I have no issues drinking coffee once out of the first trimester... I did with my daughter but I don't drink coffee daily any way. I am more of a social coffee drinker.

Re: Decaf or reg?
^^^ I'm sort of the same with the post 2 losses paranoia. Pregnancy #1 I was all paranoid and followed all the rules. And it didn't work so with #2 I was all whatever. I followed all the rules and it didn't work so screw that. I didn't even take prenatals until over 7 weeks. And I feel horrid about that. So #3, back to following all the rules.

With DS1 I was by the book, no caffeine and very conscious of my diet...he ended up with an analrectal malformation (unknown etiology) that likely occurred in the 6th or 7th week.
So with DS2- I figured "hell, caffiene is fine" and DS2 was fine. My OB said the one cup is okay, so I either have a cup of coffee or sofa, just not both.

Re: Decaf or reg?
Just figure whatever it does to you it is was stronger for the baby. Maybe that might help you decide? Good luck mama! Addictions are hard!

Re: Decaf or reg?
I'm a heavy coffee drinker (used to own/run an espresso stand, so I blame that).
Anyway, my MW has always told me that it is better to have one espresso (2 shots) a day while pg than it is to drink drip coffee. Drip coffee contains more caffeine per oz than espresso. But I think decaf would be fine (keep in mind that it does still have some caffeine in it). Lucky for me, this pg I am just not craving much in the coffee department

I am dreaming of the day after I give birth and they serve me coffee for breakfast in the hospital like last time. Im sure under normal circumstances i would think hospital coffee totally gross but at that moment it was the best cup of coffee i'd ever had. lol
For now I'm surviving (barely) on one cup of tea in the morning. I will sometimes have a Swiss water process decaf just for that coffee taste. |

I'm not on this board, nor am due in Feb, but iced coffee can be made with little caffeine and a lot of milk, so extra calcium. I make ours with 3-4 tbsp instant coffee ( which has less caffeine than drip) 1tbsp of sugar. Add about 2 ml water in a small container (i use an old bm storage bottle) and shake till foamy and black. Pour in a 32oz container and add about 1/4 cup flavored creamer of your choice, then fill the rest of the way with milk. Serve over ice for about 4 servings. Tastes super yummy, and uses less coffee than one cup of hot instant! Good luck!

Re: Decaf or reg?
Due to some health concerns, my body hasn't been able to handle caffeine for 2-3 years now, so it's not much of an issue for me. I can handle some chocolate and tea, and decaf coffee, so that's what I drink when I want something like that.
