Worse on Liquid Concentrate?

DD is on Nutramigen for silent reflux and we were using the powder with no issues once we started with Dr. Browns bottles and mylicon. We moved to CA and WIC only covers liquid concentrate. I thought dd would be fine, but 2 days into it and her SR got worse, screaming in the evening, and she was refusing a bottle this evening as well. She seemed like she had stomach aches too. Once I mixed a bottle with the powder though she gladly ate till full and was much calmer.

Has anyone had this happen? Will medical cover the powder form?

Yup, could be. Anything is possible. Talk to your doctor and WIC and see if you can get a doctor's note to get the powder.

Could it have just been a bad bottle? We got out dated bottles several times in the liquid. The store we bought it from told us they didn't sell as many bottles and there for their stock didn't get rotated as well. I'd check the date just to make sure and maybe even call the company with the batch number just to ask. But it sure could be that she just does better on powder. Mine was opposite, only did well on RTF.

Re: Worse on Liquid Concentrate?

No. I'm guessing that since it's thicker it takes more work to digest thus leading to excess acid and more reflux. That's all I can think it was due to. It doesn't have enflora in it, so maybe that's also part of it.

Re: Worse on Liquid Concentrate?

My LO didn't do well on either. But at least the liquid doesn't stink like the powder! the two are very different. I think one doesn't have any corn in it.

Anyway (for anyone who is looking for formula for reflux) my sisters DS had reflux and she used enfamil AR so I tried some of hers and my LO did so much better on it!

Yep. DD wasn't on prescription but she did GREAT on powder. Got a good deal on rtf AND concentrate and she did not tolerate either of them well at all. Didn't even cross my mind that that could happen ! She was so miserable and her poop was green and runny and STINKY. You could just tell her stomach ached. Went back to powder, problem gone. So weird!

It is weird! I'm glad my DD isn't the only one. I know Alimentum RTF has no corn in it, but I don't think there is too much of a difference between nutramigen liquid and powder. All I know is that it made her poo mucousy and she was absolutely miserable.

Re: Worse on Liquid Concentrate?

Oh yes, it has LESS corn ingredients. I'm suffering from the stress of moving,

They taste different and they have different consistencies, so I don't think they are the same at all.
