Tell me to let it go...
I'm agitated. I bought special wrapping paper for DS birthday which is this weekend. I mistakenly told my MIL that he had seen it on accident and wanted to open a present. Well. She wrapped a gift in it without asking me and now wants to give THAT to him NOW instead of waiting. I'm annoyed because I looked everywhere for that paper and I feel like my special gift wrap surprise has been "stolen" our from under me. Im so hurt and angry but I know I have to let it go or DH will be mad.

Re: Tell me to let it go...
Let.It.Go. She will probably do something to make you even more mad at her sometime in the future, so don't waste your emotions on this.
Pick and choose, Mama. Pick and choose. This is what I've learned with in-laws. Oh, and don't bring it up with your husband... no spouse wants to hear smack or angry emotions about their side of the family (especially, their mamas and papas). Even if a parent is in the wrong, most of us feel a loyalty to "defend" the people who reared us. I learned that one the hard way. :? That's why we have friends to vent to!

Re: Tell me to let it go...
:-)
Thanks. Actually, it has worked out. DH himself told her the paper was for his birthday and asked if she'd put it in a bag instead. So, she did! Yay for happy endings!!!

Re: Tell me to let it go...
I'd be a bit mad too.
Don't deny what you feel--let yourself feel, and acknowledge the validity of your feelings. You can do that and then it will be easier to let go. If it were me, I'd even bring it up in convo-- "Hey MIL, you know, it made me feel like you took away my special surprise for ds when you did that. Could you please talk about your plans with me next time, before you take my wrapping paper?" Or whatever else you could say that would be truthful and get your point across, but wouldn't start a fight. (I know that's not always possible tho!) At least tell your hubby. He ought to be aware of little things like these, if for no other reason than for him to be able to help smooth over any growing tensions between you guys. JMO! Happy b-day to your DS! Hope the celebrations go well
