This doctor looks worse than before. I would definitely ask around for a new doctor. |

Thanks for everyone's input...I contacted our local AP group this afternoon and will look on Dr. Sears site for other suggestions! I did find a non-vaxing mom today and she gave me a referral but it is 45 minutes away; I don't think that is realistic for us. I guess I know the right questions to ask now. We have military pediatrics and we are overseas so our options are limited. I found that when I just said "yes" to all their stupid food questions and then went on parenting my child in my intended way we got on just fine
It started with breast feeding... My son wasn't gaining fast enough to appease the docs (who use the formula fed growth charts..duh!) I refused to supplement. I knew my son was hitting all his milestones, and was happy and healthy, just slow to gain (he did usually increase by 10% each time but was still on the low end) We used baby lead weaning... We did start at six months, but only because he was showing interest, we started with steamed veggies and fresh fruit. We used no "baby food" at all, everything was as pure as possible. So when the doc asked what food my son liked I said carrots, bananas, apples and chicken. It wasn't a lie, it just wasn't in the "form" (ie mush from a jar) of food the doc was familiar with. I never did rice cereal or anything as those are just empty calories with no nutritional value, basically just tummy filler. So what I am saying is, you are not depriving your child, FOOD BEFORE ONE IS JUST FOR FUN!! Breast milk has everything your baby needs nutritionally up until one year of age. An another great tip when your little one does start solids... You choose what they eat, they choose how much, so make your choices healthy ones and they will do the rest! |

FWIW, my DD1 showed zero interest in solids until she was nearly two... Excepting brownies. The vax list is how I found our crunchy pedi. Love them! |

Re: I want to punch my new Pediatrician in the throat!
I've read that delaying solids can possibly help a baby keep from having food sensitivities or allergies. I know that most babies start solids at around six months but I did not know that it was a requirement. I hope that you can find a doctor that suits your parenting style better.

Re: I want to punch my new Pediatrician in the throat!
Why not try to find a family practice doctor instead of a specialist like a pediatrician? I have only ever seen a family doctor.
But I also agree with what someone else said. I actually don't take my child to the doctor for advice. I do my own research, make my own decisions, and take them (any myself) to the doctor only when there is a problem and we need meds of some kind. This is very rare. Honestly I have rarely gotten any good advice from a doctor, or information that I didn't already know. I have been misdiagnosed, although happily I was smart enough to do more research before filling a prescription. I was told by a doctor when my first was 5 months old that I didn't need to breastfeed past 1 because the WHO recommendation was only valid for "other countries". yeah.
