This will probably sound like a waste of water to many. But during the summer to keep the ammonia out of the pail, every morning I'd dump the diaper pail into the washer (top loader) and set it to the right water level to just cover the dipes and add 1 T bacout. Then let it agitate for a min or two while I did other things, then spun out. Then tossed them back in my pail. Sounds odd, probably like way to much work, but it took care of my ammonia. Then every third to fourth day I'd wash. Sometimes I wouldn't do the rinse thing until the second day, so I'd skip a day then day 2 & 3 do the quicky rinse, then day 4 wash with my normal routine.

Yeah, I have some Bacout that I've thought about trying but it caused DS's eczema to flair the last time we used it. It took weeks and an rx cream to get rid of it. Still, it's been about 9 mos...maybe I should try spraying the diapers with it again? I don't know.

I gave up o overnight cloth due to ammonia recently as well. The only dipes that had it were the overnight ones, and they only smell ok if I bleach every load which I'm not cool with. There's no shame in it . Sposies have their time and place.

I give you credit for trying so hard to make it work. My LO is only 2 months old so we don't need different night diapers yet, but I've already decided that I'm not going to buy any special cloth diapers for night... If I can't make nights work with what I have then I'm going to use a sposie at night!

Don't feel like a failure! Sometimes I think there is too much pressure on mommies to be perfect. Do what is best for you and never apologize!

My dd stinks to high heaven in the morning too. I just rinse the pee out in the diaper sink with hot water and the smell goes away (we use prefolds). That works for us. But if it was a problem after washing, I'd probably go the sposie route too.

I agree with a PP that it might not work right now but that doesn't mean you can't try again when you feel ready to give it another go. Don't feel like a CD failure! It's only one diaper a day.
