Anyone successfully supplement?

My pump is on it's way out after 3 babies and I have never known anyone who has had success with a baby nursing well and taking a bottle of formula well.

I'm not ready to wean him... just wondering if anyone does this without issues.

How old is he? Would he take formula from a sippy, rather than a bottle?

Re: Anyone successfully supplement?

I supplement my baby with formula because of a supply issue. I use the Medela Calma nipple and although it took a little work to get her to accept it, she is a pro now. We started at six weeks. I always offer the breast first, but on the rare occasion I have left her with my parents they have had no trouble giving her

It can definitely be done. Think about moms that pump and bottle feed while at work. It doesn't matter what is in the bottle, only that the bottle is used only when necessary.

He takes a bottle of BM fine, and he is 7 months. He doesn't love his sippy yet.

I'm doing it, which you already know, since about 8 weeks now. He does really well. Just finished nursing him to sleep, again.

I'm just so afraid he will prefer bottles and not want to nurse anymore.

I think it depends on your milk flow too. I have never had more than a super slow flow, probably slower than what the newborn nipples are, so getting it from a bottle was easier and he got more. Most of my problem was just supply though. I'd be empty and he was hungry.

Re: Anyone successfully supplement?

If he is already having bottles with breastmilk, I don't think formula would be any worse...
