Re: Breastfeeding & ppd

How do you know if you have ppd? I think I might have some but don't really know the difference between stress and ppd...

I'm sorry, not fun I've read that taking a good DHA supplement helps. There are some that suggest when all the info about the dangers of eating fish while pregnant came out and women started removing it from their diets an increase in PPD was seen. The dose needs to be stronger than is often found in most prenatals with the DHA added.

I take Nordic naturals prenatal DHA because it is thoroughly tested to be free of environmental toxins by an independent third party. The dose on the bottle is 450mg, 580 total with other omega 3's. I'd give it a shot if you weren't already supplementing because it's beneficial for both yourself and baby anyway and hopefully it helps you to find some relief.

(I want to say I read that the dosage recommended for PPD was over 800mg but couldn't find anything with specific numbers in a quick google search just now.)

I hope that you feel better soon :/ I have read recently that vegetable oils consumption may increase chance or severity of PPD. If you're not already, I would definitely cut all of that out and remember to take your fish oil and use butter, ghee, and/or coconut oil instead for anything that you would have used vegetable oil for.

I rarely use vegetable oil, at home it's butter, coconut or peanut oil. Forgot the fish oil again, need to go take it.

Glad you are feeling better, mama! Since my period came back while nursing, my anxiety has gone way down. I had to wean early with my first, I really do think hormones play a HUGE role.
But for me, it was finding a balance of several things to feel level. Glad you are taking care of yourself!
