Hmm disliking stuffing pockets already, can I alter the way I use them?

I do haha. I either do it while watching TV or listening to an audiobook. Especially nice if I can do it when DH is home so I can shut myself in our room and have some quiet.

I think cotton babies sells a sock thing that you can stuff inserts into. I'm not sure if the purpose but seems like it was for microfiber, then you could have it against the skin?

I would just do prefolds. They're inexpesnive and absorbent. Just trifold and lay it on top of the pocket. Cotton Babies has preemie prefolds for a low price and free shipping.

Prefolds or flats would work great. Or, you could sew fleece on one side of the microfiber inserts and lay them in the shell. I did that for use with Flip covers. I just used one of the many fleece baby blankets I had.

Yes...this! The socks work great for mf inserts, prefolds, whatever you want! With that said, I like pockets more now that I have a very very wiggly 10 month old. I used to love the flip, but now I can hardly get it on him, much less keep the insert straight...

I'd either get new inserts without microfiber or put something on top so the MF is not against the skin. I prefer AI2s as I hate stuffing.
