Yeast Monster!
It has struck here!! ICK! The terrible part is I had 103 diapers to wash that are in my current rotation. ONLY downfall of having a large stash!!
So we got our yeast cream and I was set out to get all the yeast out of my diapers. Here's what I did Hot wash with lots of dawn and a little bit of detergent. 2 extra rinses, but rinse until all bubbles are gone. This strips your diapers and gets rid of detergent buildup etc. Then another hot wash with oxiclean, bleach and TTO. I added the bleach once the machine was fully filled up with water. Then an extra rinse. Then one hot wash with TTO and nothing else and an extra rinse. I had to do 3 loads which included all my wipes and wet bags as well. There was about 10 diapers that didn't get washed as they're in my diaper bag and a small stack in teh living room, these weren't used in the one month that my son had this yeast rash. So I didn't wash them. My washer fills up hot, then warm, hot and then warm. So while my faucet hot water temps at 130 my washer was only 107. Water needs to be 122+ to disinfect. So I added 3 pots of hot water to each load and it made my temp 124. My old wash routine was cold rinse, hot wash with detergent, cold rinse with vinegar. My diapers would get funky without the vinegar. Now my routine will consist of cold rinse, hot wash with detergent, TTO, oxiclean and 2 pots of hot water added. Hot wash with nothing. I'm going to see if I can do without the vinegar though. For now we're in disposables for the next 9 days and I can try these out next Saturday morning after we get back from vacation. I really hope I killed the yeasties! Not something I ever want to deal with again!

Re: Yeast Monster!
The one thing you didn't mention. Sun. Which yeast cream did you buy? I've been thinking of getting some of the charlies for my cupboard just in case. My lo never had a yeast rash but I'd like a recommendation for a good cream if you liked what you used.
Another suggestion that won't help with the dipes but will soothe is to add baking soda to your child's bath. It helps with the pain of any kind of diaper rash including yeast and will not hurt the child. |

Re: Yeast Monster!
We haven't had yeast with my little guy but my ds2 had it once. I didn't have a super huge stash then and I don't remember it being a huge deal but he only had it once and the doc gave us a script for some cream that worked great. Sorry you had to go through all of that!

Re: Yeast Monster!
Do you need the bleach and the TTO? I like to be prepared and just always assumed bleach and hot water would be enough. Do I need to keep TTO on hand too?

I'd like to add that apple cider vinegar in baby's bath water helps soothe, heal, and fight yeast. When our DD gets yeast, I also dip a wipe in a mild ACV and water solution to dab onto her skin, as well. These are great suggestions! Thanks for this thread, OP!
