Re: Cheap places for mattress/bedding?
Costco has the $150 twin mattresses on sale for just over $100 right now. I'm trying to convince DH that we're not gonna find a better deal than that and get one for DS.

I have no problem with second hand bedding... the mattress though... on that I'm with you. I would have suggested ikea too since you're looking for cheap

Re: Cheap places for mattress/bedding?
Another vote for Big Lots if you have one near you...we got mine & DH's bed from there when we first got married (about 8 years ago) and will need to replace it in the next year or two, but for a standard innerspring mattress, that's about normal for wear. We got our older two kids memory foam mattresses from walmart.com, I think we paid $100 or $150 each for twins, but they're firm (which I like for a kids bed) but still comfy, we just put a waterproof mattress pad over them to help reduce wear and tear of the kids type. Solid sheets are much cheaper than character and are easy to transistion from style to style, then either character fleece blankets or you can buy just a character comforter (I know walmart and kmart sell the comforters separate from the sheets). Both of our older two went through so many favorite characters from 2yo through 4/5, it just wasn't worth replacing & decorating the room in a new character all the time, but fleece blankets are cheap. ODS is 6yo now and DD is 4yo, they both have solid sheets and blankets that can grow with them (DS's is a quiksilver set, DD's is a nice but not baby-ish butterfly & ladybug set), and if they want character stuff, we get posters and those peel & stick reusable decals..all of its cheap and I don't care if they outgrow it and want to switch it out more often

Re: Cheap places for mattress/bedding?
Thanks! We don't have an Ikea or Biglots that is local to us, but I could have my MIL search for me. I think they have them where she lives.
I know character bedding is outgrown, but I really want it to be fun for DS right now to be in a big boy bed. He's super into cars and the ninja turtles. Once he outgrows it I can use it on DS2, so it's not a big deal. Getting plain sheets is a great idea though, I didn't think of that!
