Id be interested to see some links on these reasons to avoid vitamins.

Re: Vitamins?

I was told today to start using vitamin d drops because "around this time breast milk doesnot contain enough vitamin d or iron" so says the pediatrician... Ds is 4mos and I never was told with dd1 or dd2 to do this... But I found this lll article: http://www.lalecheleague.org/llleade...gsep03p75.html. I'm still on the fence, I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet...

Re: Vitamins?

We do Vit D when we remember. But it has nothing to do with BF. We don't do flu shots and Vitamin D is excellent at helping to protect against the flu.

My Vit D levels are low anyways so I am on a high supplement. DS is 4 and takes 400iu every day. DH takes 2,000iu every day. I take 5,000iu every day. And like I said, DD gets the baby Vit D drops when I remember.

I am vegetarian and live in Canada so I give DS D-Drops (one drop on the nip). Once he's weaned I will most likely do FCLO and HVBO since he won't eat any animal flesh, just bone broth.

Vitamin D3 passes through breastmilk. It's recommended that nursing mothers get 5000-7000 IUs daily (which is then enough for mom and nursling). Current research that is taught and supported by LLL says that we do not get enough VitD from sunlight and that everyone should be supplemented.

You can always get your (and/or baby's) levels checked to see if it's needed.

Re: Vitamins?

We didn't give them either. We are moving soon and plan to speak to her new Dr when we get there about supplementing at least with vit D, due to the super long winters.
