Ten Commandments of a Farmer's Wife and other Farm Sayings
Thought this was cute and you ladies would get a kick out of it!
Ten Commandments: 1. Thou shalt not sort sheep with your hands in your pocket. 2. Thou shalt cook meals that can be served 30 minutes early OR 2 hours late. 3. Thou shalt learn to keep farm records 4. Thou shalt love the aroma of new-mowed hay and the smell of cows and sheep. 5. Thou shalt be inspired to see the sun rise and relieved to see it set. 6. Thou shalt learn to open gates, close gates, and guard gates. 7. Thou shalt thrill at the sights of a new tractor and the birth of a new calf. 8. Thou shalt live closely with God. 9. Thou shalt cherish meals together, long waits for the vet to arrive, and decisions about when to plow the south. 10. Thou shalt love lunchtime, when the smell of the farmer can be stronger than the smell of the food on the table. -excerpt from Farm and Ranch Living (with a few changes) I amen 2,6, and 10! ![]() ------------------ Any other sayings, quotes about farmlife you gals love? |

Re: Ten Commandments of a Farmer's Wife and other Farm Sayings
Love this. I think I could also re-write that for a fisherman's wife too! As the daughter of a fisherman, a lot of this rings true as well, especially the dinner, sunrise and sunset and the rank smell....

Re: Ten Commandments of a Farmer's Wife and other Farm Sayings
I know we're all about farming here, but as the daughter of a lobsterman (they farm the sea right?) I couldn't resist (especially since morale among fishermen is at an all time low with record low prices and the Canadian fishermen ambushing our trucks *nothing against Canadians, if we had our own processing plants here in the US, they'd go here. the last time someone tried to open a plant, they got the grant money to do so opened for the required amount of time to get the money, then took the money and took off to lord knows where...)
1. Thou shalt not sort lobsters with your hands in your pocket. 2. Thou shalt cook meals that can be served 30 minutes early OR 2 hours late. 3. Thou shalt learn to keep trap records 4. Thou shalt love the aroma of the briny sea and the smell of weeks old bait. 5. Thou shalt be inspired to see the sun rise and relieved to see it set. 6. Thou shalt learn to navigate the sea, gaff a boy, run the hauler, and band lobsters. 7. Thou shalt thrill at the sights of a new boat and a full catch. 8. Thou shalt live closely with God. 9. Thou shalt cherish meals together, long waits for the husband to arrive, and decisions about when launch for the season. 10. Thou shalt love lunchtime, when the smell of the baitbox can be stronger than the smell of the food in the cooler

my two favorite quotes
"The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep" "Don't cook. Don't clean. No man will ever make love to a woman because she waxed the linoleum - "My God, the floor's immaculate. Lie down, you hot B*#@%." ~Joan Rivers.
