I am making a nursing cover for my cousin. I have some cute flannel that I could use but I am worried it wouldn't be light enough or that it would fade quickly with washing. I am planning on putting in a piece of boning so it will be open a bit at the top and was considering adding some terry to one of the corners for wiping baby's mouth if needed. Going shopping in a few so I was hoping to decide beforehand if I need to get a new fabric.

Re: QUICK! Would you use flannel to make a nursing cover?
Boy or girl? I think my last is stripe (yellow & blue) cottony. Mine worked well my mom made 4 me. Depending on how big She idle may need more biluttons to make smaller but no extra to help hold open needed I found. I thought lots out are too heavy my mom made pattern & made. She's good at that. Flannel mayb ok for little cooler weather but not sure on hot spring & summer days.

Re: QUICK! Would you use flannel to make a nursing cover?
Its a boy and she is due at the beginning of October. So he will be little during the cooler months. I never used a cover but if I had it probably would have been best when I was still learning.

Re: QUICK! Would you use flannel to make a nursing cover?
I personally wouldn't due to how sweaty my baby gets under a blanket when nursing but if it's in October it may be okay due to cooler weather?

I don't think flannel would be a good choice because of 1- it wouldn't breath great and 2- you'd want something a bit stiffer so it held some structure, you wouldn't want it clinging to the wearer or the baby.

Re: QUICK! Would you use flannel to make a nursing cover?
I have a cover with boning.. It is just a thin woven like quilting cotton. It's light in the summer. In winter... who takes a baby out without a blanket? It doesn't need to warm. The cover is just to cover the boob and baby's head. If all I had was flannel, then you could make it work but If you are willing to purchase then a 100% cotton woven would be better.
