Re: Wha do you do for work?

I am a hospice social worker. I've also worked in the hospital and in a middle school. It's a demanding job, very emotional at times, but very rewarding.

Re: Wha do you do for work?

I'm a nurse aide, currently going to school for healthcare administration.
Does it suck? Yeah, sometimes. Is it worth it? Mostly. I love my field.

THIS is the kind of job I was hoping for when I was interviewing/applying a couple months ago. The 3 12s - gosh, that'd be awesome. I also have worked at a medical office front desk before and I actually really enjoyed it.

But the job I got is at a hospital business office as an account rep. Which is a decent job - but truthfully I miss the patient interaction.

Overall, health care is a great field to get into. There is so much room for advancement (and even to move around) at the hospital where I work, if I end up staying there - which all depends on when/if God decides to let me have another baby! In our office, I know they just hired someone to do correspondence who had no medical background. Not the fanciest job, but certainly a job that you could easily move up from.

Another reason I like working for a hospital - great benefits (and we are actually on DH's health insurance policy, he works for the other hospital in town ), and tons of vacation days. I get 17 PTO days my first year - which comes in handy when you have sick kids and are a working mom, KWIM? Also helps with the work/life balance.

Also, let everyone you know know that you are looking for work. That is usually the best way to find a job!!

Good luck!

Re: Wha do you do for work?

I'm a school psychologist, but I get to keep my office at home, which allows to stay home about two days a week. Not looking forward to summer vacation ending though!

I'm a biologist on one of the largest landfills in the county. I spend half my days hiking through native habitat and newly restored habitat and the other half writing reports. I inventory the progress my sites and report them CA Fish and Game, Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife, and the Water Board. I get to work in the prettiest parts of the landfill and some months I don't even see the trash.

Re: Wha do you do for work?

When not on Maternity leave I dispatch for the local cab company. It's a kind of lonely job, I chat with customers on the phone and drivers on the radio, but unless there;s a problem or someone's cashing out or grabbing keys to start their shift, I'm usually otherwise alone in the office. It'll make it easy to pump in the office though when I do go back to work in March.

Re: Wha do you do for work?

I own/run a preschool and childcare center, so I have the added benefit that all my kids go to work with me. My teachers also bring their kids with me, and if they are over age 3 then they come for free. If you have any interest in teaching then maybe look for a preschool where you can work and bring the kids?

I'm a nurse and work for the state Dept of Corrections. I love my job, it pays well, great benefits, and I'm able to do online classes so within 3 years I will be able to finish my MSN and get a $3k/m raise.
