Need recs for material for sleeping bag UPDATE completed with pics post 10
Looking for recommendations for the type of material to use for a preschool sleeping bag. Will be washed weekly would ideally like it to hold up for a few years. Would prefer cute print and organic but not sure where to find something along those lines or what type of fabric (cotton, quilters cotton, cotton sateen etc). Thanks for any input!

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
I would use quilting cotton on the inside and corduroy/denim on the outside. They are durable and can be washed on hot & go through the dryer. Since the outside might be put on the floor, you want something durable. You also want to make sure it can be washed on HOT/dried on hot in case there is something nasty like lice going around the school.

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
Not overly durable, but when we were little, Mom made my sister a "sleepover" sleeping bag lined with an old percale sheet. It was amazingly soft. I kept stealing it even though it barely came to my armpits.
Is this a mat or a bag? My kindergarten nap mat was a towel. Man, kids today. When I was that age there was no internet and only Big Bird could see Mr. Snufalufagus.

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
I know it is crazy! It is a sleeping bag - her preschool requires "Sleeping bags must close on 3 sides (blankets and thin mats do not meet our state licensing requirements)". I've been looking in the stores and just can't bring myself to buy the polyester bag. I justify that going this route it will last a year or two or maybe all 3 she will need it! So no mat or towel or blanket. Glad to know you survived on less than what I am looking at!

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
I'm in full support of your making it. The polyester bag I had was pilly and way too hot. It did have smurfs on it though. I think that Seattle Fabrics sells long separating zippers for sleeping bags.
I can't help but wonder where they will store all the bags. Our towels fit in our cubbies. Maybe you should make a stuff sack for it too. I'd at least make some elastic straps to hold it together when it is rolled up.

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
The only corduroy problem I can see would be lint build up. I have a pair of brown cords that pick up everything: I'm a human swiffer when I wear them. On the other hand, the texture will make it easier to roll up.
Be sure to post pictures when it's done!

Re: Need recs for material for sleeping bag
I'll post a completed photo BUT I must confess I am totally craft challenged and someone is making it for me - she's been super patient and helpful! I was asking on here so I could be more specific in what I wanted and not have to bug her too much. THANKS again for the input!
