We do every night, but we are lucky to have everyone home at dinner time. The kids and I eat together at the table for breakfast, lunch and snacks when dh is not home. On weekends we eat all meals and snacks together as a family. Sometimes we have an after dinner snack together on the couch.
I wouldn't feed my kids dinner that late, but I would maybe give them a small treat to eat with dh when he eats dinner. That way, everyone's together, and it's something they will look forward to

This. My DH is gone Monday a.m. to Friday evening every week, so DD and I are on our own. We do have dinner late on Fridays so we can eat with DH, but I wouldn't do that every night, it's no fun keeping DD distracted while we wait.

Re: I want to eat dinner at the table as a family..

The boys and i eat at the table Tues-Sat night. DH works till 9 or later. On his days off, usually Sund/Mon we eat as a family.

We always eat by 5:30 sometimes 6. Now way could i hold them off till later

OP--in your shoes I would eat with the younger kiddos at a good time for them and then either sit w/your DH when he gets home. On his days off have family dinner. Or make fmaily table time at breakfast. There isn't a rule that says it has to be supper.
wife and mom-- no other special labels. Just trying to do the best I can.
