Thats a good point, especially when considering long term outcomes. Seems like exposed kids have a lot of sensory issues too but seems like so many kids who arent exposed have these issues as well. Its a crapshoot no matter what i think.

This is kind of what the lady at OTIS said. She said a lot of people that do meth are self medicating ADHD. And that heredity is a bigger factor than meth exposure when predicting ADHD.

Also many of the studies following kids that are exposed are done looking at children that are still in the same environment. So symptoms could be more environmental rather than due to damage.

Plus she said that many times people chalk things up to the exposure when it has nothing to do with it.

I have 4 adopted siblings, all whose birth parents used various drugs and alcohol. I would be willing to talk via PM with you about long term prognosis if you like. They are all now in their 20's. I will share that one brother who was supposed to be a vegetable is now a general contractor and working on an architecture degree.

Though I am not a foster parent, I once worked in a center that provided therapeutic care to infants and toddlers in these situations.

It is AMAZING what these little ones can overcome. Placed in a good, safe, caring, loving, routine driven home, I have seen babies born addicted, SBS babies, and severely abused and neglected babies THRIVE. A strong attachment in the first few months of life is seriously the best medicine a baby can have. If you can provide this for this baby, there is a very good chance that she will be A-OK.

She did indeed test positive. I swear she is one of the easiest sweetest babies ever! She is also very normal. I know it's not a guarantee but I feel great and am so happy.

I am glad she is doing well. Our little one is also pretty easy this time around. The dr in the NICU said that only about 4% of meth pos babies go through the screaming withdrawal, etc. which my dd2 had. Oh, curious, did they release baby on a normal time frame? Didn't put her in the NICU? Ours kept her in the NICU for five days for observation which was a pain.....
