Re: Those who go to chiro for their kids
Quote:
As I mentioned, I had a problem and had to be adjusted frequently and then discovered that the physical therapist was able to actually fix the problem rather than temporarily relieving symptoms. I no longer needed ongoing treatment because the problem was fixed. To me the goal is not to need treatment from any provider on an ongoing basis. If the chiro isn't correcting the problem, then I would find a different chiro or a different specialty. I guess that I get the impression that doctors, physical therapists, speech therapists, etc. all have a goal of cure. They want to fix the problem which means that you no longer need them. On the other hand, chiros don't seem to have this as an end goal. They are all about the ongoing, long term, adjustments, which leaves me wondering whether these individuals would be better off with a PT.

Here is a skeptical discussion of the history and nature of chiropractic:
http://www.skepdic.com/chiro.html Personally, I have never seen one and find them highly dubious.

And I completely agree with the second bolded to an extent. I'd like to think most chiros have an end goal when it comes to treating an illness/problem, but I guess when your practice involves keeping the spine correctly aligned and our everyday movements cause it to shift constantly, there are sometimes needs for maintenance visits. Sorry for the thread hijack, OP.

If everybody needs adjustments all the time, well you start going to chiro, then you need to go all the time because the chiro says so. Of course they say so, they want you to come back. Chiro manipulations seem so unnatural anyway, LOL. I also wonder when I walk around or just bend or stretch my back cracks. So am I just clicking myself out of alignment again? Or am I maybe cracking myself back IN to alignment, lol.

Re: Those who go to chiro for their kids
My chiro charges one fee for the whole month, unlimited visits, and so we go twice a week. Cause it feels so good.
![]() My DD has been seeing him since she was 2 weeks old (she's 18 months now). She loves going, and is always calm when they adjust her, and she usually sleeps well and is happy afterward. The times that we haven't gone for a month or so, that's when we notice that her sleep habits mess up a bit. I mean, as toddlers they fall down a lot, so I imagine the spine actually can go out of whack a bit. We figure if it doesn't hurt, why not just try. We LOVE going because it relieves a ton of tension in our backs and shoulders (and I'm 9 months preggo with baby #2 now), and I can say I haven't had bad swelling or leg pain or much back pain at all, which was why we started going in the first place when I was pregnant the first time. |

As far as our everyday movements causing our bodies to shift -- they were designed to move. I do not believe it is necessary to have someone "correct" something that is natural and part of our body's design. If something is causing an actual problem, well then I think a person can and should see someone to correct it. But, the idea that the spine needs to be adjusted due to every day life is not something I believe in.
