Anyone use Sonlight for their 5th grader?
Ok, if anyone has been following me...
I'm a teacher, and last year taught at PS. For 5 years previous I taught at Christian school. Well I've been struggling with what to do with my advanced 5th grader (middle school here) and 2nd grader (struggling, and young for AZ). I also have a 4th grader, but she's doing okay and correct age wise, etc. Anyway, I was offered a position teaching at a christian school. It's a super small school (24 students total). They run it as home-school at school if that makes any sense. They use Sonlight curriculum. Grades 1-4 are together and have one teacher, and can work at their own levels (so dd could do 2nd grade math but first grade reading or whatever). Kindergarten is separate (what I am teaching). 5th-8th grade is a homeschool program completely except they do it AT the school and every Thursday are taken to a HS group. Mon-Weds they do their work at the school with a proctor. SOOO I was just kind of wanting an idea on what Sonlight looks like for 5th grade. Also, I know I am not the traditional HSer, but I'd still like to pop in here, since I will be sort-of HSing 7 other people's kids LOL and b/c my dd's will be in this program. So, hope it's okay if I stick around I've got my hands on the K-4 and it all looks good. I'm a little confused yet, but I'll figure it out. I'm just very used to regular teacher's manuals, etc and this is just different b/c well, it's for HSers LOL. So any advice/what to expect for me or for my 5th grade DD would be great.

Re: Anyone use Sonlight for their 5th grader?
I used sonlight one year a while ago, but can't recall what level. You can see the booklist for each level on their website. If you have a used homeschool bookstore nearby you could probably find the lesson plan manual to browse. I liked sonlight in theory, but my kids weren't close enough in grade level to be practical and it was too time consuming to use with just one of my children while using other curriculums.

Wow! What a great idea! I would LOVE a job like that! I have no advice about Sonlight though...but as a former PS teacher (like you!) I think Sonlight looks great b/c it's sooo much reading aloud. I wish I had looked into Sonlight before buying what I have now.
