Whole wheat pizza dough?
Anyone have an amazing yet fairly simple recipe? Maybe even something with added hidden health in it.

Re: Whole wheat pizza dough?
I been making this one. It is really good and simple and is all whole wheat instead of a mix. It doesn't have hidden health but I do make the sauce with lots of extra veggies and top it with healthy stuff.
http://vegetarian.about.com/od/veget...wheatcrust.htm Ingredients: 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 package active dry yeast or instant yeast 3/4 tsp salt 1 cup hot water 1 tbso vegetable oil 1 tbsp honey or sugar Preparation: Pre-heat oven to 425 detgr To prepare pizza dough, stir whole wheat flour; lightly spoon into a measuring cup and level flour. In large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, yeast and salt. Blend in water, oil and honey or sugar. Stir by hand vigorously until all ingredients are well mixed; about 3 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise to desired size. Place dough in greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly-roll pan or 12 to 14-inch pizza pan. Press dough to cover bottom of pan and up sides to form a rim. Add pizza sauce of your choice and your favorite pizza toppings; bake in oven 15 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown and toppings are done.

Just thought of something completely different. Could I make the dough and cook several pizza crusts without topping and then freeze for a quick easy dinner later? Not sure if crust would be funny the second time of cooking with the toppings. Maybe even add topping and make my own freezer pizza to just heat.

![]() i make the pioneer woman's pizza dough but just sub whole wheat flour (recipe: thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/07/grilled-vegetable-pizza/ ). you might need to add a little extra water. you could add some wheat germ in place of 1/2 cup of flour if you wanted to make it more healthy.

Re: Whole wheat pizza dough?
I do this in my bread machine on the dough setting but I have done it by hand as well...great for camping.
1 cup warm water 2 t yeast 2 T maple syrup (or your choice of sugar) Mix these three together and let activate (about 5-10 minutes) add 3 cups flour (I use 1/2 King Arthur bread flour and 1/2 KA whole wheat) 1 T salt 3 T olive oil Made this tonight actuallly for veggie calzones on the grill...YUM! |
