Hand Pumps
The hand pump I got from WIC is a medala, and it does not work. DD was barely nursing today because of teething and so I was uncomfortable. All it did was bring milk up to the front and barely extracted any. I need some recomendations for affordable pumps. I can't afford a battery or electric one. Is the Avent good? How about Lansinoh? I should add, I pumped while in the shower, I could get more out by hand.

Re: Hand Pumps
I have a Lansinoh hand pump and I was happy with it. I preferred to pump with the hand pump over the electric pump and I felt like I got more milk when I pumped by hand.

I use the avent Isis and prefer it over my Madela pump in style. It's more comfortable and just as efficient. I could never get used to the sound of the machine.

Re: Hand Pumps
I used an Avent hand pump after feedings, and middle of night sometimes with great results. I want to say it was around $35- at Meijer.

Re: Hand Pumps
Sounds like the Avent is a win then!

Yep, the avent one I had worked great. The only reason I sold it was because my wrists won't tolerate hand pumping.

Re: Hand Pumps
I was also really pleased with the Avant Isis pump, especially for my last baby, who was tongue-tied and not good at nursing/clearing the breast her first few weeks. It made life so much less painful, and was easy to use one-handed.

Re: Hand Pumps
I have the Medela one (harmony maybe) and it worked fine. Are you sure all of the parts are on tight? sometimes the little oval piece would get turned and it wouldnt suck as much. Call medela and maybe they can troubleshoot for you.
