Re: Homebirth- early arrival question
My Midwives do not deliver before 37 weeks, and I'm more comfortable with 38 weeks. So if I went into labor at 37 weeks I may decide to go to the hospital. If I were to deliver before that time yes I'd have to go to the hospital and my Midwife would stay with me, she'd also be my caregiver once I left the hosptial too. So I wouldn't get any money back, but I wouldn't be out any money either because she'd still be doing her job as much as she can under new circumstances.

Re: Homebirth- early arrival question
My mw's standard is 37wks. If you go into labor before that you deliver in a hospital that she has a good relationship with. the one she transfers to. However, I was around 4cm dilated at 36 wks and had pre-e with my first and she said that had I gone into labor that week, me birthing at home would be ok. As it turns out I went into labor at 37.5 wks with both girls.

Re: Homebirth- early arrival question
My MW will allow me to birth at home between 36-42 weeks...if it's before/after that time-frame, i have to go to the hospital and she would not charge me the $2500 fee for the labor/delivery, just the prenatal visits. However, if I attempt to give birth at home and I need to be transfered to a hospital, I would be charged the full $2500 fee...understandably...and she would accompany me throughout the hospital routine and be my advocate...i just absoutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my midwives!

Re: Homebirth- early arrival question
I asked my midwife how early would be too early to deliver at the birth center. It seems to me that the rules would be the same with a home birth.
Basic answer is anything before 37 weeks you should go to the hospital, where they are equipped to deal with the health risks that come with some premature babies. I asked midwife "Could I deliver here at 36 weeks?" Her answer was: "That depends on WHEN in your 36th week you went into labor. 36w1d, probalby not, you'd need to go to the hospital. 36w5d and you have not had any complications, I would feel comfortable with you delivering here." So... basicallly, general rule of thumb is if it's before 37 weeks, go to the hospital. At 37 weeks, a home birth or birthing center would be fine. God bless!
