Do your kids have this many toys?! Pic Heavy!

We have way to much! I was just saying to DH that I had maybe 10% of the toys they have now when I was a kid, and most of that was hand me down from my siblings.

Of the toys we have though, alot are ones from me and my siblings (fisher price sets, dolls, barbies, play food and dishes). Most things I purchased were 2nd hand and then there is the gifts!!! Really pushing hard this year for books and art supplies as my oldest is reading well and needs more challenging books. The only "toy" I would want anyone to buy them is more lego...it's so expensive that I don't buy it much. The IL's did very well for DD2's b-day...she got lego, a DVD and a birthday figurine for her age.

Nope, we are kind of minimalists. We have a TON of books and legos. My DD had A LOT when she was young, but now she really doesnt have any at 13. more electronics that MIL bought her. We are HUGE in books though. Toys, not so much. DS has a lot of games, like candyland and such. and a massive ammount of legos.

My kids don't have too many toys since we've been decluttering the past couple of years. They have clear plastic lidded bins that hold a type of toy (I think the bins are 12 QT): trains/tracks, cars, animals, play food/utensils, Legos and 'people'. Then they have wooden blocks, puzzles/games/etc, craft/drawing supplies, dress up clothes and stuffed animals. DD has a wooden cradle/dolls/Build-A-Bears/clothing, Polly Pockets and a doll house with dolls. We have lots of books but they get rotated.
They play mostly with sticks and rocks, I kid you not. I'm thinking about adding a 'nature' bin.

We have plenty of toys still but I got rid of 75 percent of them in the past month or so shhhh dont tell the kids

heres pictures of the play room now- its a work in progress I still have about 12 bins to go through but half of them are books. I need to get another bookshelf and I hope to get a couple expedit shelves this winter to put the other toys on. but here is our new playroom-

Our book nook. it has the couch, the little spice rake things(I have a few more I need to get them all hung up, and the wicker basket has the living math books in it...

the green totes have waffle blocks and train tracks and peices(I got rid of the train table they didnt use it) the wood crate is full of wood blocks and the 12 shelf is full of workboxes(the missing ones are on e my desk to be refilled)


the green bin has vehicles in it, the pink one rainbow rice and the slide which we use to slide the cars down more then to slide down people.

super hero shelf with a couple big dinos, the football has dress up things in it (I want to get more at halloween) and the plant for his super heros. In front of the fireplace is a play ship and the current lego ship Liam is building with me.


this has my curriculum books on them, another ship, and a few other things, along with the tv which houses vhs and the wii.

theres also a full closet of legos and a full closet of kids games.

We don't have a lot of toys, either. I limited the toys because we previously lived in a 2 bedroom 800 sqft apartment. We now have a 4 bedroom house with lots of space, but will probably not add much more than maybe a play kitchen. Here is a picture of our setup:







We do have more toys than what is out in these pictures. I have one large rubbermaid tote that has other toys/books in it. Every other week or so I rotate toys so the kids never get bored. There are no toys in their bedrooms, just beds.

AcrossTheUniverse, you make me look like a complete hoarder!

I have a 2 year old and a 16 year old (only lives w/ us part time and doesn't really like toys anymore). I've been told I have a lot of toys given that they're all for 1 kid, so I guess that's a sign that we need to cut back. My excuse is that we have a lot of Little People and they take up oodles of room so once those are not used any more (probably w/in next year), we'll look less cluttered. BTW, does anyone else cringe when their child is handed a big gift?

Uh, yeah. We have a tiny house 2+ bedrooms, 1 bath, 750 sq ft, and when people give us giant gifts for the kids, I die inside a little. A few years ago a close family friend gave DS1 a GIANT radio flyer spring loaded horse for Christmas. I was like, dude, you've been to our house. This won't fit anywhere. We now use it outside in the summer, and it lives in the garage the rest of the year.

Easily. We just had a garage sale and EVERYONE commented on how it looks like Toys R Us. Btw, that was just baby & toddler stuff.

Wow!! Too many toys. As you are having two children so, you are having this much but at our home one kid is there so, the quantity of toys is also half or more than half as compared to yours.

I don't think what you have pictured is too much. If it gets overwhelming you can store and rotate like some of the previous posters do.

We have WAY too many toys and I found that my boys didn't want to "rotate"; they just wanted their trains and cars! So now I have 6 large Rubbermaid totes full of unused toys! Eventually I will purge, but I'm hoping the train thing won't last forever.
