What do you do with the rest of the sweater? (upcycled Longies)
I upcycled 3 Longies. What do you do with the rest of the sweater?
Anyone make a dress or top to match? The ones I used were a woman's large with hood and zipper, a man's small cardigan with buttons (which was bigger than the womans large LOL!), and a man's XL that is a pullover. I'm sure I could make something but was just hoping for a little direction otherwise they will sit in my unfinished project basket forever.

I make pull on soakers with the body of sweaters. Just like the fleece ones people make. I never have a problem with the sweater unraveling or anything, because I always felt them really well first.

Re: What do you do with the rest of the sweater? (upcycled Longies)
You could make a pull-up soaker out of the body, or even shorties or longies, if there's enough. I've seen some cute skirts/skirties made of upcycled sweaters. A dress or a top would be cute. If it's big enough, maybe a sleep sack. I've actually seen some adorable upcycled overalls, too. If you knit at all, you could unravel it & upcycle the yarn. You could make felted objects, too--heck, slippers/booties, a piddle pad/changing pad, mittens, or even a wool soaker/doubler. You could use a couple scraps to sew a hammock-style doubler into the longies you made. There are lots or options, it just depends on what you want, need, or will use!

My mom makes and sells purses made with felted sweaters, and my grandma makes and sells mittens from felted sweaters! Lots of possibilities!

I made stuffed monsters with my older daughter - wonky shaped and lots of legs and eyes, and a mix match of colors. The wool was warm and cozy and it was always a plus when they matched their longies!!!

Last Christmas I bought a few wool sweaters with the intent of making them into a wreath. I saw one on the wooly baby etsy shop at the time I think, her daughter made them from her square scraps. Looked super easy here's a pic of a similar one
http://www.etsy.com/listing/88412685...ef=cat_list_18 Also found this link with lots of great ideas for scraps and old sweaters in general too. Hope you find some ideas! http://www.squidoo.com/refashion-rec...w-to-tutorials Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum Last edited by onegratefulmama; 08-22-2012 at 04:24 PM. |

We use longies for bed. I've been thinking of making YDS some wool shirts to go with his woollies because he wants to wear jammies and I feel funny pulling a zipup footsie pj over woolies iykwim.

i make shorties and longies out of the body generally so it's the sleeves leftover. I use those for footies
